FROZEN DAWN “The Old Prophecy of Winterland”

Mighty Hordes Productions

What a piece of solid metal I got in my fucking hands!! Coming from the Iberian Peninsula, this horde of demons unleashed a pretty good first full length, and I’m sure it will become a classic soon. They created a 10 track album full of high level of guitar riffs. Complexity is their business, but they don’t want to impress anybody with annoying scales or pompous irregular compasses. Music is complex itself by delivering dark atmospheres through strong guitar riffs and an excellent drum set. Indeed, the drummer’s work is astonishing as this guy makes tons of tempo changes and is unstoppable. Tracks like “Through the Gates of Hate” makes me think about this early Nordic metal scene, with aggressive guitars, a destructive level of decibels, and metallic choruses made of hate and fury. “Cold Souls” and “Winds from the north” share this 4/4 metallic rhythm, which makes you arise your fucking fist and feel the black blood running inside your veins. Both are excellent soundtracks for these days of sorrow and apocalyptic aberrations. My favorite on the album is “Frozen Down”, an aggressive song full of great arrangements and sophisticated sections, from slow heaviness to black atmospheres full of red fire, a throat loaded with poisonous acid, and thick as a tank, and everything balanced inside the composition. Besides they’ve got, also they’ve achieved many influences from Nordic black metal, and this band has the knowledge to look for an own style, and well, I can’t say they’ve completely found it but they are on the correct road. On this CD they included a cover version of “Fuel for Hatred” from SATYRICON. – Victor Varas
