Incantation Vanquish in Vengeance Review at Zombie Ritual Zine

INCANTATION “Vanquish in Vengeance”

Listenable Records

Well, everybody said that this was a tremendous return for these motherfucker lords of dark and ugly death metal, and I was very curious about it. If you’ll write a review of the new album from Incantation, you simply can’t deny old references like classic “Onward to Golgotha” or “Mortal Throne of Nazarene”, and If you ask me, I think that is one of the old death metal bands that have created a truly macabre, as well as murky and poisonous metal of death in the early days, and the status has been reinforced through the years. Although some of you would say that a new album from this band is completely unnecessary, the high octane guitar riffs and the astonishing production are two aspects to underline in the album. And Yes, the album is KILLER. It contains ten deadly songs forged in the pure obscure essence of violent music as well as putrid breath.  The obsession of John McEntee (guitars) for perfectly caustic guitar riffs is quite noticeable in tracks like “Progeny of Tyranny” or “Haruspex”. Also, music as approach to brutality and sounds natural, and I liked the fact that this band don’t want to presume anything to anybody. My favorites are “Profound Loathing”, and “Legion of Dis”, which are two malefic hymns to funeral metal, rooted in doom and heavy (I mean heavy!) guitar tunes. Due the level of complexity, dark essence and obscure atmospheres, for me this album is one of the best death metal releases of 2012. – Victor Varas
