ALTAR OF BETELGEUZE “Darkness Sustains the Silence”

Memento Mori

If you are familiar with Finnish death metal bands, surely the name of Decaying will ring your ears. Well, this band features some members from that band, and it truly has an eclectic touch forged in gloomy and ominous music.

After a short EP released in 2012, these guys return with a debut album full of density, painful lines and literally tons of great guitar riffs influenced by the black magic of stoner music and doomed atmospheres. Music sounds great, and it has a particular taste of powerful and solid melodies, if you know what I mean. Also, they combine lyrics with clean voices and guttural voices on very specific sections. As aforementioned, the album sounds excellent for those who know about truly stoner vibes, and definitely they know how to focus elements into heaviness and melodic stuff. Actually, this band transmits giant stones of musical spirals, and every track makes sense with different states of mind. Not to mention that they combine guttural and clean singing. Personally, I like when I hear clean vocals and I would rather the band leans toward that side. Whatever, this is a great album of doom metal and stoner metal music, and I really recommend it. It’s to being released in January 1st, 2014. – Victor Varas
