INNSMOUTH “The Shadow over Innsmouth”

Crime Records

This is a very interesting piece of European death metal full of old school vibes, shredding guitars and Lovecraftian elements. Coming from Denmark, these guys recorded an excellent debut album deep into Lovecraft’s theme, and I liked from the first track as everything has high dose of hyper technical death metal, hyper frenetic structures and shiny touches of guitar’s geniality here and there.

Actually, I don’t know when the point is, when guitar shredding is “too much” But, who cares anyway if the band sounds great? These bastards made me head bang and I really enjoyed some epic moments in middle section of “ReAnimator” (excellent guitar riffs and cavernous growls), and “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” which is a great piece full of sinister melodies and ominous vocal lines. As aforementioned, this is a great debut album where you will hear new interesting elements every time you listen to it. Ultra recommended! – Victor Varas
