MEPHORASH “1557 – Rites of Nullification”

Odium Records

This is a great piece of apocalyptic and provocative black metal forged in obscure atmospheres and excellent guitar riffs. Featuring guest appearances from Archfiend DevilPig (Serpent Noir, Embrace of Thorns), Omega A.D. (Fides Inversa ), and Kæffel (Hetroertzen), this Swedish entity knows exactly how to transmit high doses of misanthropy and ritualistic tunes.

Of course they have influences from Nordic old school, and they added a particular seal of occultism and doomed stuff to the music, but I must say that everything sounds morbid and sophisticated at the same time. This is one of those black metal bands that developed a distinctive sound and denotes people here, with high muscular musical skills and quite mature ideas, if you know what I mean. After two full length albums and a couple of EP’s releases, this is a great opus and a step beyond ritualistic black metal, looking for a particular perspective of the genre. It’s highly recommended, really! – Victor Varas
