MALIGNO “Mundo ciego”

As far as I know, this is the first time that Maligno releases a self-produced album, and also is the first time they record an album 100% sung in Spanish.

Coming from Monterrey, a northern State in Mexico, these guys composed the fourth full length album in which they demonstrate that they are one of the most respected metal bands in these lands. All tracks denote mature musicians that based all compositions in a quite eclectic side of doom-rock genre, in which Black Sabbath is the first reference. Of course, they are not doing a copycat, they have already forged an own style and they know what they are doing. Also, I really liked track “Mundo Ciego” which is a touchy introspective song that shows the influence of the song “Planet Caravan”, if you know what I mean. Maybe I should complain that the band has suffered multiple line-up changes in guitar’s department, and you can hear new and different musical arrangements in that instrument. And maybe I should complain the completely unnecessary drum solo in track “Alebrije”. But, definitively this is an excellent album, and it is next to be a classic in Mexican rock scene. No more to say. – Victor Varas
