GREY HEAVEN FALL “Black Wisdom”

Aesthetics of Devastation

Wow! I’ve been listening tons of great black metal bands from Russia lately, and this is not the exception. Opener track “The Lord Is Blissful in Grief” has one of the most cathartic and impious guitar riffs I’ve ever met.

This sounds chaotic, dissonant and dark at its purest form. This is a band that features live members from another Russian dark entity called Comatose Vigil. Of course, they have big experience in extreme metal music, and created excellent stuff on the second album. I liked this band because they have interesting instrumental sections that transmit oppressive feelings, among high quality vocals, with solid ideas. All tracks sound poisonous and someway melodic, but this is black music forged in bad blood, complex structures and high musical skills. If you ask me, the guitar work as well as musical arrangements is amazing. This is an authentic Russian gem for black metal genre, nowadays. And I’m still impressed. – Victor Varas
