LUSTRAVI “Cult of the Blackened Veil”

Obscure Musick

It seems like black metal genre is mutating every day, and always we find interesting bastard sons worldwide.

This case is for a great album from Panama City, Florida, composed with excellent atmospheres and painful guitar riffs. Formed around 2015, these guys released a very decent debut album with roots in classic death metal and Nordic black metal, but they are into occultism, and forged quite obscured atmospheres in the entire album. All tracks contain distinctive forms of catharsis and everything sounds clear and cold. Of course you can detect influences from black metal bands from the north of Europe, and Greek metal scene from early 90’s, but these guys have a peculiar perspective of the genre, from death metal roots. Just listen to track “Dona Nobis Chaum” (the middle section with bass guitar) and you will see what I’m talking about. This is a very well-conceived black metal album, with a great balance between death metal elements, superlative dark atmospheres and metallic spirit. I think this band has many things to offer in the future, so I suggest keeping an eye on them. – Victor Varas
