SEPTEKH Apollonian Eyes Review

SEPTEKH review at Zombie Ritual Zine

SEPTEKH “Apollonian Eyes”

Abyss Records

Is this another death/thrash metal band combining incisive guitar riffs with aggressive lines? Well, they are from Sweden and truly they know what they are doing. This is the third EP released in three years and I liked the way they compose high octane lines and hyper violent melodies. Of course they have all the Swedish old sound coming from the early 90’s, but they also know how to take advantage of the musical skills and everyone did a great job on the recording. These four tracks are forged in aggression and metallic blood, as we notice the great structure in “Vlad Tepes” which is my favorite track, btw. Vocalist sounds crude and thrashers, and the result is balanced between aggression and epic lines. I can’t say that this is the most original EP I’ve heard this year, but the band sounds great and very mature musically speaking. It’s recommended for those who are looking for good metal bands growing up from the Nordic underground scene. At last, I have to say that the cover art is the most HORRIBLE I’ve seen these years, and I hope they’ll get a cover artist soon. – Victor Varas

DEAD AWAKEN Where Hope Turns Dripping Red Review

Dead Awaken Review at Zombie Ritual Zine

DEAD AWAKEN “Where Hope Turns Dripping Red”

Abyss Records

This band found the balance between aggressive death metal, brutality and technical skills. Guitars are extremely heavy and sharp, as well as the lines which denote a very professional and honest work behind rehearsal room. This band also features one of the crudest and thick voices I’ve heard this year. If you ask me, this album is a red piece of destructive death metal forged in brutality and solid guitar riffs, and seems like the founders know very well the business since they used to play in two death metal bands in late 80’s.Unfortunately, I’ve heard this formula so many times that I can’t say it’s a very original stuff. This trio has huge musical skills and the roots on ancient death metal are visible in tracks like “Rocket Symphony” which is a slow song with crushing guitar riffs. All in all, this is a great First Full Album, and it would turn your speakers into pieces. But, as aforementioned, the genre has been explored in many horizons, and I can’t say that this is something that will reach a higher position in case they record the next album in the same line. Anyway, you can buy it and the last word will be yours. – Victor Varas

The Gates of Slumber The awakening Review at Zombie Ritual Zine

THE GATES OF SLUMBER “The Awakening …” (Reissue)

Abyss Records

Thanx to Abyss Records we can enjoy again this jewel from USA. It has been out of print for a long time, and it truly worth to get it. Heavy guitars announce an excellent storm of doomed and obscured music, deeply rooted on the most traditional way of the 70’s. If names like Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road, or Saint Vitus are familiar, you will know what the hell I’m talking about. Shit! From the first track, they made clear what they want to sound!! As I said before, guitar riffs are solid as a big dick, and they make an excellent work delivering amazing epic lines throughout melodic and psychedelic tunes. They know the language of death, and create some excellent atmospheres full of oppressive riffs and organic (to say something) drum rhythms. My favorite is the song “The Jury”, which is an excellent example of “stoned” heavy metal, linked to the sound of 70’s rock music. Guitar riffs truly are a trip to the unconsciousness, beyond a cluster of twisted notes, and a pragmatic wall of sound. The song includes an excellent solo guitar. I recommend this piece of doomed metal with a couple of drinks. The whole bottle is better. As extra info, the cover art was made by Ken Kelly (Manowar, Rainbow, etc) – Victor Varas

Abyss Records to re-release The Gates of Slumber’s debut album on November 13th

The Gates of Slumber ad at Zombie Ritual Zine

The Gates of Slumber and Abyss Records have teamed up to re-release TGOS debut album “…the Awakening” with all new layout and cover art, nine tracks in all including bonus track available for the first time on CD. Playing an old school style of doom metal in the traditions of Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Rainbow, Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road and the likes. This re-issue is a must have for any traditional Doom Metal fan. Having been out of print for some time now, the new generation of Metalheads will get their first chance to get there hands on this classic!!!

This album could probably be the soundtrack to a movie about witch burnings during the medieval times; it fits that mood so perfectly! If you like traditional doom and are a fan of Saint Vitus and similar bands but also like to hear a sludgier side of traditional doom, then this is definitely the band for you.” Azhidahak –

HUMANGLED (Italy) Review

Humangled Odd Ethics Review at Zombie Ritual Zine

HUMANGLED “Odd Ethics”

Abyss Records

This is the new production of a not too old Italian death metal band (but very experienced) which has been undervalued since 1997, and I think this is the time for their rising. Definitely, they don’t play something I hadn’t heard before, but they do a very aggressive melodic death metal, and your attention will be caught immediately. Again, is a band which bases its music around guitar riffs and no matter how many times we’ve heard this hard core stuff blended with death metal stench, I think is properly the aura of the aggressiveness what it counts. Only four tracks full of aggression, excellent guitar technique and some winks to heavy metal. The voice is corrosive, as Andrew Goreds seems to have a much matured style, you know, this strong growling without forcing the throat and pronunciation correctly. I liked this experienced touch they do on track “Smells Acrid”, a totally death metal stench with putrid and overweighed guitar riffs, and excellent tempo changes. Also I liked the thrash metal touch they gave on track “Deny your Greed”, very dynamic riffs and fresh structures. This is a cool addition to your underground Italian death metal collection. – Victor Varas

DESULTOR released "Masters of Hate" album and is streaming a track has teamed with Abyss Records and Sweden’s DESULTOR to stream a track off the band’s brand new full-length debut, Masters of Hate. The track, entitled “Another World,” is a brilliant representation of DESULTOR’s progressively-minded sound that blends speed, technicality, melody and aggression. Check it out for yourself at this location.
Stockholm-based progressive Swedeth extremists DESULTOR released Masters of Hate on March 20th via cult US death metal label Abyss Records. Formed in 2007, the duo of guitarist/vocalist Markus Joha and drummer Michael Ibrahim rapidly evolved over the course of two demos into the boundary-pushing and deadly outfit they are today. Dubbed “Murder Metal,” DESULTOR is unique as they are extreme. This is Swedish metal supreme. Masters of Hate was recorded and mastered by Sverker Widgren at Sweden’s Necromorbus Studios.
